본 연구는 전라북도 지역 성인의 구강보건지식 수준과 실천정도를 파악하여, 성인의 구강건강 증진을 위한 구강보건교육프로그램의 기초자료를 제공하고자 전라북도 지역에 거주하는 성인 219명을 대상으로 2013년 10월 8일부터 10월 16일까지 설문조사를 시행하여 다음과 같은 결과를 얻었다.
대상자들의 하루 평균 잇솔질 횟수는 3회가 가장 많았으며, 잇솔질 시기는 점심식사 후가 가장 많았다. 구강보건지식수준의 평균은 82.73점이었고, 실천정도는 63.05점이었다. 구강보건지식수준은 연령이 낮아질수록 높았으며(p<0.05), 학력에 따라서는 대학원 졸업에서 가장 높았다(p<0.05). 성별에 따른 구강보건실천정도는 여자가 남자보다 더 높았으며(p<0.05), 월평균소득에 따라서는 400만원이상의 소득자들이 가장 높게 실천하였다(p<0.05). 구강보건지식과 실천 사이의 상관관계는 r=0.388의 양의 상관관계로 구강보건지식 수준정도는 실천에 영향을 미치는 것을 알 수 있었다(p<0.001).
이상의 결과 연구대상자의 구강보건지식 수준에 비해 실천정도는 낮은 것을 알 수 있었다. 따라서 성인의 구강건강을 유지 증진시키는 방안으로 대상자들에게 구강건강의 중요성과 필요성 등에 대해 알리고, 단순한 지식의 습득이 아닌 실천을 강조한 구강보건교육을 계속적으로 시행해야 하며, 대상자들이 수동적으로 듣고 보기만 하는 교육이 아닌 직접 참여할 수 있는 구강보건교육 프로그램이 개발되어야 한다고 생각된다.

영어 초록

The purpose of this study was to examine the oral health knowledge and practice of adults in North Jeolla Province. The subjects in this study were 219 adults. A survey was conducted from October 8 to 16, 2013. The findings of the study were as follows:
The most common daily mean toothbrushing frequency among the adults were three times, and the most common time for toothbrushing was after lunch. They got a mean of 82.73 in oral health knowledge, and got a mean of 63.05 in its practice. The younger adults had a better oral health knowledge(p<0.05), and the respondents who graduated from graduate school were most knowledgeable(p<.0.05). As for the practice of the knowledge by gender, the women put it into practice more than the men(p<0.05). By monthly mean income, the respondents who earned four million won or more practiced it the best(p<0.05). There was a positive correlation between their oral health knowledge and practice of it(r=0.388), and the former exerted an influence on the latter(p<0.001).
The findings of the study illustrated that the level of practicing oral health knowledge wasn’t as high as that of oral health knowledge itself. In order to maintain or promote the oral health of adults, they should be informed about the importance and necessity of oral health, and practice- oriented oral health education should continuously be provided instead of just conveying knowledge. Besides, hands-on oral health education programs should be developed instead of merely having learners listen and watch.
